Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

STAFF REPORT
What started as a routine traffic stop on Monday ended in a methamphetamine bust for Providence Police Cheif Brent McDowell.

According to McDowell, Tuesday morning he received a report that a red pickup truck had been spotted driving off the shoulder of the road. Shortly after the report he spotted the vehicle as it ran onto the sidewalk in front of Hucks.

McDowell stopped the vehicle near Do-It Best in Providence. The driver Steven Stallion, 59 of Marion, KY, was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, DUI-4th Offense, Driving on a DUI Suspended License, Possession of Meth-2nd Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Trafficking in Methamphetamine.

The drugs were packaged in plastic baggies using yard sale tags to designate the quantity ($.25 for a quarter gram, $3.00 for 3 grams, etc).

The drugs had not been weighed as of press time, but McDowell estimated that the suspect was in possession of around seven ounces of meth.
