by MATT HUGHES
J-E Editor
On Thursday night, television fans across the country will get the chance to see one of Webster County’s own shine when he appears in an episode of ‘The Astronauts’ Wives’ on the ABC network. It will be Sebree-native and Webster County High School graduate Glenn Hobgood’s network television debut. Not bad for a guy who launched his professional acting career only five years ago.
After spending years on the road as a stand-up comedian, appearing under the name of Bubba Saunders, Hobgood hung up his traveling shoes and decided to pursue a career in acting. It was a big career change for a man in his mid-fifties, but one Hobgood had planned ahead for.
“I decided to make a change when it became evident that we were going to stay in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana,” Hobgood said.

Sebree sets new sewer rates
by MATT HUGHES
J-E Editor
After much debate, Sebree City Council members passed a measure on Monday night that would create a sewage usage fee for sewer customers who live outside the city limits and use city sewer but not city water. These customers, who until now had paid nothing for that service, will be looking at a bill that will include a $20 per dwelling surcharge, plus 100% of their water usage at the city’s out of town rate.
The out of town rate for Sebree water customers is $24.19 for the first 2,000 gallons and $7.54 per additional thousand gallons. According to a prior report from the Webster County Water District, their average customer uses 4,000 gallons per month. That would make the new sewer rate for the average customer ti $39.27 plus the $20.00 service fee for a total of $59.27 per month.

Refugees, Tyson and conflicting information???
by MATT HUGHES

Since the public first became aware of JEM’s proposed apartment complex, a lot of information surrounding the project has made it’s way around the county. From quotes credited to a spokeswoman of the International Center of Kentucky cautioning residents about the health risk of Burmese immigrants, to whether or not Tyson Foods has any official involvement in the project, it seems that there is a lot of conflicting information out there. And a lot has been said about “Burmese Refugees”, while nobody really seems to know a lot about them or what the difference is between a refugee and an immigrant.
Much ado about nothing?

Sebree area residents wishing to block the development of an apartment complex in their area met with the Webster County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) last Tuesday night to express their concerns. But their pleas went unheeded, which in the eyes of the law may be the only way things could have gone.
With many among their group carrying signs reading ‘Vote No’, a handful of residents voiced their concern over a proposed apartment building, which is being developed by JEM Development, a company owned and operated by Sebree resident Mark Moser and his wife. Speakers voiced their concerns over various topics, including disease, over crowding at Sebree Elementary School and a lack of transportation.
