Madisonville’s most popular family-friendly festival promises plenty of unplugged, old-fashioned outdoor fun for all ages.
The sixth annual Madisonville Kidapalooza takes place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, October 26 around the courthouse square in the city’s historic downtown district. The free event features games, activities, arts and crafts to entice kids to spend the day away from computers, video games, and television, said Tricia Noel, Executive Director of the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission.
Children will enjoy a wide variety of outdoor games such as boat races, hula hoops, bean bag toss, book bingo, cornhole and the Madisonville Fire Department’s Safety Trailer. Art activities include street chalk art, balloon sculpting, face painting, paper bag animals, bookmarks, and jewelry making.
“Our attendance grows every year,” Noel said, “which indicates to us that children and families enjoy doing these simple, timeless activities together.”
In addition to individual arts and crafts activities, Madisonville Lions Club will also be on hand to offer free eye screenings for children.
The festival features several main attractions. Children with special needs can participate in the Pennyrile Soapbox Derby Association Superkids races on South Main Street. Students fromHopkins County Schools will compete in the Recycled Objects Sculpture Challenge, and spectators may watch as student winners of the Pumpkin Painting contests recreate their prize entries.
The featured act for this year’s festival, Grace Warehouse Church S.T.O.M.P team, will be performing at 11 am and 12:20 pm in front of US Bank on South Main Street.
