KYTC prepares for snow

The National Weather Service has indicated the 11 Counties of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 could receive snow showers starting after about midnight tonight. Snow accumulation is currently thought to be in the 1 inch range.

The KYTC District 2 Snow and Ice Team has been monitoring the arrival of snow overnight and coordinating an appropriate response.

Each District 2 crew will have trucks loaded and ready to roll in case bridges and overpasses develop slick spots. Crews are planning to report in force at 5:00 a.m., CST, when the main snowfall is expected to start.

Motorists are asked to monitor the forecast for regular updates through the night in case the anticipated accumulation amount is revised. Motorists who plan to be on the road before daylight are reminded to pay close attention to localized conditions as the system develops, and adapt driving speeds to highway conditions as they travel. Appropriate caution is required.

Highway conditions for Kentucky with links to surrounding states may be found at www.511.KY.GOV.

KYTC Distric 2 is responsible for 3300 miles of highway in Christian, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Hancock, Daviess, McLean, Hopkins, Caldwell, Webster, Union, and Henderson counties.
