Toys for Tots kicks off 28th year of giving to area youths

Providence Fire Department has undertaken the task of assisting Webster County young people for nearly three decades with it’s Toys for Tots program. The program began in 1987 and is still going strong.
Last year the organization provided toys to a record setting 425 children throughout the county and is hoping to roll that success over to this year. Current estimates are that some 350 children will be in need this holiday season.

“Although there are other excellent smaller scale assistance programs, Toys for Tots takes in all of Webster County and donations are needed from every community to make it a success,” said Chairman Keith Farrell.
In order to make giving easier county-wide, there will be drop-off locations located around the county. Anyone wishing to make a donation can stop by the Providence Fire Department, the Clay City Building, the Dixon City Building, Planters Bank in Sebree or Independence Bank in Providence.
“The local Toys for Tots is once again teaming with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program,” said Farrell. “Toy donation boxes will be located at the Dollar General Stores in Providence and Clay and at the Family Dollar in Providence.”
Donated toys aren’t all that Toys for Tots needs during the holiday season. In order for fill the lists of every child, they also depend on monetary donations.
“Businesses, churches, organizations, schools and individuals are urged to help support this program,” said Farrell.
Cash or check donations should be mailed to: Keith Farrell, Toys for Tots, 611 Maple Street, Providence, KY 42450.
“They can also be taken at the Providence Fire Department, the Providence City Building or at Independence Bank in Providence,” Farrell added. “Early donations are encouraged so shopping can be done while the selections are best at local and area stores.”
Those wishing to have a child’s name added to the list can contact Audubon Area Community Services in Dixon at 270-639-5635. To be eligible, a child must be 13 or under and must live in Webster County.
