Dixon Commission met last week in their regular scheduled meeting. During the meeting, commission members voted to approve the second reading of an ordinance that would create the position of Public Works Director.

Water Operator Jamie Harkins was sworn in to fill the newly created position. Harkins spent 13 years in the Public Works department with the city of Providence before moving to Dixon last fall to fill the position of Water Operator for the city of Dixon that was left vacant when former water operator Larry Parrish retired.
In other business, the commission approved a balanced $1.2 million budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. That’s a slight increase from the $1,027,706.14 buget approved last year.
Mayor Linda Frederick reported that Baker and Bourland Parks had both been mowed and sprayed for weeds. She also informed the commission that a new culvert had been installed on Bourland Avenue.
Briefly the commission entered a closed session to discuss possible litigation. They returned a half hour later with nothing to report.
