A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has closed the Interstate 69 northbound exit and entry ramps at the Dawson Spring-KY 109 Exit 92 Interchange in Hopkins County as part of efforts to upgrade the interchange to current Interstate standards.
Today, construction crews were busy reworking the ramp connections for the new I-69/KY 109 Interchange configuration. The project is converting the old toll booth style interchange with short cloverleaf-type ramps to a modern diamond interchange.
The northbound ramps are expected to be closed for approximately 7 days for this work. During that time traffic from the Dawson Springs area will have to detour east on US 62 to Nortonville to travel northbound. Northbound I-69 traffic traveling to Dawson Springs will be required to travel US 62 eastward from Princeton.
There will be no northbound access to or from Interstate 69 at Dawson Springs during this ramp work. The contractor was working with an extra sense of urgency today due to rain in the forecast for later in the week that could slow progress on the connections.
The new southbound ramps were completed about a week ago. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area due to ongoing construction activity along the work zone.
