Drawing from The Journal-Enterprise |
Work is progressing rapidly on the new Providence Municipal Center, facing Willow Street near intersection with Marlin Street. A drawing by Engineer Associates, Inc., Evansville, Ind., engineers and architects, gives an idea of the beauty and modern design of the 60’X170’ building.
The fire department proper will be located in the center while offices for the firemen, the city clerk and police will be at the left. A drive-in window is provided at the extreme left for convenience in paying bills. At right, next to the fire department, will be the council chambers and at the extreme right will be the library area with entrances at the front and rear. Between the council chambers and the library will be the mayor’s office, library office, storage, work and utility rooms. Bonds were signed and completed this week by the Public Municipal Center Corporation officials including Wayne Ridley, president; Harold Trader, vice president, and J. L. Bradley, secretery-treasurer. The building will be rented to the City of Providence until bonds are retired when it will become city property.
My dad, leo wiseman, who was assistant fire chief at the time, was the first person to stay in the bldg.
