City of Sebree settles with contractor

Sebree City Council passed a resolution on Monday, December 22, 2014 to enter into a settlement agreement and release with Grimes Construction Company of Paris, KY. Grimes failed to meet the November 15, 2014 deadline to complete the $1.2 million dollar project.

The project was scheduled to replace 35,000 feet of outdated and often leaky water lines within the city, much of which has been in place since the late 1930’s.
Under terms of the Settlement Agreement and Release, the city will pay Grimes $43,738.84, as part of the six pay request from the contractor. Grimes will then be responsible for paying $34,617 to CI Thornburg, a West Virginia-based company that supplies water pipes and fittings to the municipal water and wastewater industry.
Grimes will provide the city with lien waivers from all subcontractors and material suppliers who have supplied work or material on the project (excluding Fortline Waterworks, CI Thornburg and GNC) within 30 days.
The project remains unfinished. City employees are in the process of assessing the current situation so that they can consider how they need to proceed.
