Family Court staff attorney files for Judge’s position


Laura Alvey Peak, has filed as a candidate for Family Court Judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit representing Crittenden, Union and Webster Counties.  The Honorable William E. Mitchell will be retiring at the conclusion of his term.  
Peak has been the Staff Attorney for Family Court for the past 10.5 years.   She has served the citizens of Crittenden, Union and Webster counties in providing mediation services in all contested divorce cases.  Mediation has played a critical role in the efficiency of Family Court, and Peak has been an integral part of this process.  As a member of the Family Court staff, she helped create the pretrial process that has set the standard in settling contested cases.  She is a certified family mediator through the Administrative Office of the Courts and is currently the only certified family mediator in Crittenden, Union and Webster counties.  

In her 10.5 years with Family Court, Peak has had the opportunity to be involved in some of the most unique and complex family law issues related to divorce, child custody, child support, dependency, neglect and abuse of children, truancy, termination of parental rights and adoptions.   
Peak stated: “Families who enter Family Court are experiencing some of the most difficult and trying times of their lives.  I understand how to balance compassion for the families involved while remaining objective and following the law.  My entire career has been devoted to family law and I have the experience and willingness to help these families.  I look forward to having the opportunity to continue serving the families of Crittenden, Union and Webster counties.”   
Peak is a graduate of Union County High School.  She attended Murray State University where she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  
She earned her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. 
Peak is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.  She is also a member of the Union and Webster County Bar Associations.  She is currently the chair of the Union County Drug Coalition.  She attends St. Ann’s Catholic Church where she serves as secretary on the Parish Council.  Additionally, Peak volunteers her time by leading a local Girl Scout Troop.  
 Laura is the daughter of Bernie and Martha Alvey of Waverly.  She is the granddaughter of Raymond and Sue Alvey and the late Bill and Ruby Cambron.  She is married to Robby Peak.  They currently reside in Morganfield with their three daughters, Shelby, Sydney and Sarah.
